Established in 1899

The Mint was established in 1899 as a branch of London's Royal Mint to refine gold from Western Australia's newly discovered goldfields and to strike gold sovereign coins for the British Empire. Behind the majestic wrought iron gates that were locked to the general public for more than 90 years, The Perth Mint now unveils a wealth of treasures, welcoming visitors to experience one of the state's premier tourist attractions. Winner of ten Western Australian Tourism Awards over the past four years, including Sir David Brand Award for Tourism in 2003 and 2004, the Mint is a must see for visitors of all ages.
